My Mamaw grew up in a pretty abusive situation. Between some of the things her younger sister has said and some things she let slip after the dementia set in, it sounds appalling.
Anyway, one of the ways she dealt with that was by concluding that people just didn’t love their children back then, as a matter of course–but things have totally changed since she was a kid. Which is honestly pretty upsetting.
I just saw another post that struck me very much the same way. It sounds like the OP has had some terrible experiences, but I don’t think it’s really a more generalized common thing. Thankfully.
Children/teens aren’t allowed to be sad or in a bad mood because they can get yelled at for it and ridiculed and told to ‘change your attitude or I will for you’, while adults who are sad or in a bad mood, are allowed to yell at and take their frustration out on the kids. Adult privilege huh?
And when the adult is in a bad mood, it’s the kids job to step on eggshells in order to keep them from not exploding, and when they do, it’s on them.
And when the child is in the bad mood, it’s their job to try to hide it, and when they break apart trying to, it’s on them.
What extra sucks about this is that adults literally have more experience, context, perspective, and brain development to help them manage emotions. Adults who do this are shit. We are the adults, we should not be expecting kids who are still developing and learning about the world and trying to figure out their place in it to be the ones who are emotionally mature.
People who treat adulthood like a power trip are honestly shit and should not have authority over kids.
PSA: Halloween is pretty much here and it only takes on second to send a sick child in the hospital a Spook-o-gram. The best part about this is that $1 gets donated to CHLA’s Helping Hand fund each time you send one out. So let’s help some kids have a spectacular Halloween by sending them spook-o-grams and helping cause!!
This literally costs nothing but your time so please do it, you could make a kids Halloween.
big fucking surprise but trump is blaming the temple for not having been armed lmao
“if they had some kind of a protection inside the temple, maybe it could have been a very much different situation” —trump in response to a reporter’s question about gun control
what is it gonna take for you freaks to realize that antisemitism is still real and is deadly, right now, in 2018
you all need to fucking reblog this no offense. especially if you aren’t jewish
source, and another source in which the synagogue says they do in fact have guards, but only on major holidays.
how far do people have to go just to survive, and how long is this going to go on until the blame is finally focused on antisemitism itself?
I have a hill to die on right here so im just gonna go off for a second. It wasnt until this year that i realized security is not a normal regular everyday thing for churchgoers. I never realized until this year that all the cameras and guards and cop cars and bag checks were for a reason. It was just how i grew up, thats just how it went. You checked in with the security desk, a guard would look in your purse or tallis bag and then youd be on your merry way. It never occurred to me that they were Actually Looking For Threats, its just always been a part of my religious experience.
We know people hate us. We know people want to kill us, that’s kind of our entire history.
Those people who were murdered didnt die because they were unprepared, they died because somebody wanted them dead.
אנחנו נתגבר ונשרוד גם את זה.
Also just for the record, the implication that being Not Christian means you should be prepared to die at any time is sickening. Fuck you.
