This was an interesting article. I doubt its claims will surprise anyone here, but it’s nice to have a few specifics as to how certain kinds of fascist mythology came about.
while this article mostly focused on the post-meiji restoration construction of the image of the samurai, specially in the western consciousness and eventually by the fascist showa era government, a lot of our understanding of the samurai also is straight up propaganda written… by samurai themselves, during the edo period. when the samurai ceased to be a genuine aristocratic warrior caste due to the end of the period of japanese warfare (at the end of the sengoku period, with the founding of the tokugawa shogunate), the samurai became more or less a regular old nobility who enjoyed waxing poetically about the virtue of their more warlike ancestors, obviously as a way to justify their own privileged status in feudal japan. so its honestly all funny to me how the west uncritically consumed this interpretation of a specific country’s ruling class provided by that ruling class itself, solely because of how it fit into their orientalist imaginary.
today my dad said “why do people binge watch entire seasons? it’s not like you’d get a book and read it in one night” so i’m not convinced he knows anything about what i do in my freetime
Superman is a tiny tiny little rooster who unfortunately was a little bit stunted in the growth area when he was a little chick.
Brother and sister, born at the exact same time.
He eventually caught up but by then the flock had basically bullied him so much for being tiny he’d been entirely ostracized and turned into a complete loner so now he has to live all by himself over with the cows, but he doesn’t care one bit because now he’s the leader of four big brown four legged chickens and honestly who can say that.
Also he’s super-cuddly.
I love him.
my name is Cow i haf to bend so i can see my tiny frend he cares for me and all the herd i care for him i lik the burd
all i have to say on breastfeeding is that the fact that it is even slightly controversial is just one of the many symptoms of a lecherous, sex-obsessed society. it’s an insult to the dignity of women.
How dare society be concerned about public decency?!
(that was sarcasm)
Nobody is stopping you from breastfeeding in private.
But in public, where it could be seen by children, trauma-stricken war veterans, or the elderly?
There is a case to be made that they should be able to go about their lawful business without being exposed to the areolas of strange women with nefarious agendas.
trauma stricken veterans of what
the titty wars?
Don’t be crass!
I apologise, I meant of course
The Wars of the Breast (1967-1969)
every time i hear you state an opinion @thecybersmith it’s somehow more outlandish and lacking of any reasoning than before
I see a woman breast feeding her child
My mind races as I remember the muffled sound of chopper blades. The screams of the dying. The smell of the napalm spraying from the tiddy
