“[Benjamin Lay] first began advocating for the abolition of slavery when, in Barbados, he saw an enslaved man commit suicide rather than be hit again by his owner. His passionate enmity of slavery was partially fueled by his Quaker beliefs. Lay made several dramatic demonstrations against the practice. He once stood outside a Quaker meeting in winter with no coat and at least one foot bare and in the snow. When passersby expressed concern for his health, he said that slaves were made to work outdoors in winter dressed as he was. On another occasion, he kidnapped the child of slaveholders temporarily, to show them how Africans felt when their relatives were sold overseas. The most notable act occurred in Burlington, New Jersey, at the 1738 Philadelphia Yearly Meeting of Quakers. Dressed as a soldier, he concluded a diatribe against slavery, quoting the Bible saying that all men should be equal under God, by plunging a sword into a Bible containing a bladder of blood-red pokeberry juice, which spattered over those nearby.“
hell yes
“On another occasion, he kidnapped the child of slaveholders temporarily, to show them how Africans felt when their relatives were sold overseas.”
direct action
broke: complain about slavery
woke: kidnap people into slavery as object lesson that slavery is bad
I think it’s important to remember white abolitionists because they serve as proof that slavery was as reprehensible then as it is today. A lot of people excuse slavers as “products of their time” and saying that things were “different back then”. People like Benjamin Lay show that the atrocities of slavery were just as obviously morally repugnant even to white men with no personal stake in enslavement then as they are now. If Mr. Lay can sympathize with the oppressed then Mr. Jefferson has no excuses.
Like, seriously, a “moderate” writer penning articles in the New Yorker about needing to end “demographic replacement” is exactly what I expected from The Resistance when it welcomed in “Never Trump” Conservatives.
Y’all realize he’s been advocating eugenics for two decades, right? Fucking under the gulag.
In case anybody doesn’t know or has forgotten why I’m trying to promote my Etsy shop
This year, I was $60 behind on a repayment account to Social Security, and for that, the IRS kept our tax return of nearly $3000 and sent it to Social Security.
One of our cars is inoperational, and the other is a 32 year old Ram truck that gets 8 miles to a gallon of gas.
With Wolf gone so much, and living 6 miles from the nearest town or shopping area (and over 20 miles from his work location), it’s imperative that I have a car we can actually afford to drive. My son in law has just rebuilt a Camry from the ground up that we were going to buy. The money we lost was mostly our car fund.
I’m not asking for handouts. I have beautiful merchandice available. So far I’ve reached nearly $1000 in sales but COGS, shipping supplies, merchant fees, and postage have eaten up almost half of it… so recouping that money is slow going, and I need a car.
Any help is greatly appreciated.
I love that the sock yarns are all named after Hitchhiker’s Guide things. As are some other yarns, like this one VOGON DUNGEON!
No matter the reason, I will always reblog a small business!
Have a peep, buy something, or at the very least reblog!
I once read in a book for class that Native American women are the least represented demographic in US media. I don’t want this to be true in the sapphic community as well.
Here’s to Native wlw who aren’t recognized or acknowledged at all in the media or the community.
Here’s to the Native wlw who are rejected for their dark skin, fierce features, and anything else that should be revered for their defining traits that unify a nation of people.
Here’s to the mixed Native wlw who are rejected for being white passing, too black, too anything and “not enough” Native. Your identity is real and valid.
Native wlw are glorious and important and deserve love in a community meant to uplift those who are forgotten by the rest of the world.
if you couldnt do the monkey bars as a kid youre gay

I would go to the middle and hang upsidedown and watch the 4th grade drama unfold
Just reminded again that there really needs to be a better term for “nativism” getting pushed in a settler colonial environment. That seems like a very weird (and inadequate) description what’s going on with those layered versions of it.
