Besides using the gas grill to cook just about anything you could possibly get decent results with? My mom used to snake a hotplate out onto the back porch with an extension cord in hot weather. Sometimes a crock pot. Anything to avoid putting extra heat into the house.

Lacking the outdoor summer kitchen setups like the old farmhouses ๐Ÿ˜… (Though I do know some people who will still set up an old stove on their covered porch, particularly for canning. Not so much in town, though.)

If this looks like it might last much longer here, I might actually pick up a hotplate. The one we had broke, and they can come in handy sometimes. If not so routinely in a British summer, thankfully.

Bit of fun this evening: I am seriously craving fried fish. And it’s still around 86F/30C, very possibly hotter inside the house Though, at least we have the ground floor ๐Ÿ˜ต

(Not unusual weather back home, but I haven’t been anywhere with hotter summers for almost 10 years now. Passes for a heatwave here, and I am really not used to it anymore.)

This seems like an even more ridiculous conflict in the Land of Fish and Chips. With two chip shops within a few blocks.

But, I very specifically want the proper cornmeal-coated stuff. More importantly? At last check, nobody near us makes any that’s celiac friendly. I may not be nearly as wild about the deep-fried battered kind, but I would totally settle for that to avoid standing over a hot skillet right now.

Good thing there is at least a fan blowing through the kitchen ๐Ÿ™„
