Pee At Home: Alabama City Bans Trans People From Using ALL Public Bathrooms

Religious extremist and doomed Republican presidential candidate Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) recently said that transgender Americans shouldn’t be allowed to use public bathrooms at all – and now a town in Alabama has turned that bigoted talking point into law. The city council of Oxford has just unanimously approved an ordinance that effectively bans trans citizens from using any public bathroom that doesn’t match the sex noted on their birth certificates.

Since it’s extremely difficult to change the sex on a birth certificate, the law effectively bans trans citizens from using public bathrooms at all – punishable with a fine of $500 or up to six months in prison. The move is apparently in response to retail giant Target’s decision to allow anyone to use “the restroom or fitting room facility that corresponds with their gender identity,” which provoked a firestorm of criticism and a fruitless boycott among conservatives online.

this story is 2 years old. the ordinance was rescinded pretty much right away. the us is still terrible, especially regarding trans people, but at least this isn’t a problem.

Minority Led Movie Needs Support!

Hello Tumblr friends

There is a movie that recently came out called “Woman Walks Ahead” starring Jessica Chastain and Michael Greyeyes that tells the story of Catherine Weldon, an artist, and activist who painted Sitting Bull in 1890.

The movie has a female director and the cast and production team was very conscientious of how they portrayed the Lakota people and their culture.

An exciting step in the right depiction, right?

Unfortunately, the decision has been made to give the movie a VERY limited (and seemingly random) release with only a handful of theaters showing it across the United States for the next couple of days (July 3 – July 5). On top of that, they released the movie on i-tunes and Direct TV with very little promotion beyond the interviews the actors have done, hurting what little theatrical release they might have had. Which is Tragic, this movie was made to be seen in a theater!

When you have a minority led project that portrays its Native characters as real relatable people and the distributors just happen to decide to shoot it in the foot by not giving it a wide release I can’t help but think… What’s really going on here?

So this is my plea out to all of you; if you live in any following areas and a considering your movie option for the next few days, please go support Woman Walks Ahead! If you don’t but still want to support the film, consider buying it on i-tunes or talk about it on social media! Reblog this post so people who do live near the right towns might be able to support the movie!

Phoenix, Arizona

Santa Monica, California

Washington, District of Columbia

Bradenton, Florida

Orlando, Florida

Ann Arbor, Michigan

Southfield, Michigan

Cherry Hill, New Jersey

New York, New York

Solon, Ohio

Grapevine, Texas

Houston, Texas

The only way Hollywood is going to know that we want more movies with positive representation, female directors, female leads, etc is if we support the movies that aim to show it. I really don’t want studio and distribution executives to use this beautiful movie they set-up to fail as an excuse for why they don’t support minority lead projects in the future.

Thank you for your time and please pass on this post!

Ann Arbor’s State Theater will have it airing beyond July 5.

here’s the trailer :

Thank you for adding the Trailer!

And it will be showing at Ann Arbor until July 12th.

For the rest of us it is available to rent or buy on i-tunes:

Masala Popcorn – Spicy Popcorn | Simple Indian Recipes

(Spicy Popcorn, Movie night snacks, Curried Popcorn)

Something quick and easy that I decided to try, and this batch turned out really good. Reminded by some masala popcorn a friend’s mom liked to make, though for some reason I had never tried putting any together myself until tonight.

I used coconut oil because I was concerned about maybe burning the butter, and it’s great for popping corn anyway. Also used some chaat masala instead of the garam masala, and tossed that in at the end along with the salt. Next time I’d probably use more of the chili powder, but a pretty good flavor blend to my taste.

(You could sub a little less cayenne if you don’t have the Indian chili powder, BTW. Or use paprika if you want flavor without the heat.)

Plenty of room to adjust seasonings to your taste, with some trial and error 😅

The plan in a few minutes, before I try and get off this foot!

I was glad that popcorn arrived earlier this evening. Hopefully the hulls won’t cause as much of a problem.

…and that canister was filled pretty much to the brim. Considering I’m about to take a couple of tablespoons out, that really should last a while 😅
