Real question: did backpacks not exist in the 70’s?

I think they were just poor

The backpack started on the west coast and migrated towards the east pretty slowly between the late 60s and early 80s. They were originally intended for hikers and other outdoors-y types, and were marketed at hiking retailers, but one of them happened to be connected to a university in Washington. Since it was so rainy over there, people started using them for books, the idea caught on, spread, and eventually backpacks became a necessity as opposed to a novel idea.

Images && info truncated from “From ‘Book Strap’ To ‘Burrito’: A History Of The School Backpack”

Earlier, basically messenger bag type school bags were apparently popular. But, I started school in 1980 in the East, and never really saw/had anything but backpacks.

My mom commented that they were strictly a hiking thing when she was growing up, and they used the single shoulder strap kind of bookbags.

Please help me pay for my kitty’s surgery

I hate making this sort of post but shit. Shit. I went from chill to desperate in such a short time that I am legit panicking.

This is my cat. His name is Keith. He is the kindest, sweetest, softest and friendliest cat I’d ever met. He’s a charmer, everyone that meets him falls in love almost immediately, even my cousin that hates cats.

Today, I noticed a lump in his tummy and took him to a veterinary. They ran some exams on him and the lump was just one of a few tumors that developed on his stomach.

The vet said it can be easily removed, and the surgery will take awhile, but the price is really way over my budget.

He said the surgery will cost around 1500 reais (387,12 dollars on the day of 07/11/18, dang), but he made it sound like there are more things involved that has yet to be charged so who knows how much it will actually be.

So, I’ll be accepting donations… My paypal is pelhahnu@gmail.com (it will show my deadname towards the end, so don’t be surprised. I also tried to use paypal.me to set up a donation link, but turns out it’s not available in Brasil.)

Any help will be deeply appreciated, really… Even if it’s just by sharing.

I’m also trying to contact my family for loans, but the more help the better and the sooner will I be able to pay.

Thanks for your attention

Hey everyone! ❤ So I have a really rad friend. Among other things, she’s helped me through my last inpatient psych stay by talking to me on the phone most nights and helping me find a last minute cat-sitter.

We have supported each other through quite a bit and I’m proud to count her as part of my disabled, queer, Jewish family. But she’s having a really rough time.

Her anxiety has worsened and she’s having a prolonged depressive episode. She’s been dealing with the stress of chronic illnesses, her job, and her mother, who is being homophobic and verbally abusive.

She’s taking leave under FMLA to try and get things together again. This means she will be getting a lot less money. She lives in a city with a high cost of living – the payouts aren’t enough to cover her rent, groceries, healthcare, and care for her two beloved cats.

This is the GoFundMe I’ve made, and if you want to support her and get a cool “Bureaucats not Bureaucrats” shirt out of it, go here 🙂 Thanks for any support!

I’ve been vague about who I am on this blog, mostly because I wanted to have a place to explore Judaism privately. But k-pagination is me.

And so it follows that the disabled, queer, Jewish person in need of tzedekah? Is one who has offered her insight in my studies to become Jewish. Is part of my communities. And most importantly: is my dear friend.

Thank you to those who consider supporting or sharing the fundraisers!

I just left a comment opposing Trump’s reinstatement of the domestic gag rule on abortion, which will endanger access to abortion services as well as all other services (including STD prevention and treatment, cervical cancer screening, prenatal care, and more) provided by Planned Parenthood.

Comments must be considered by government agencies and are often the basis in law suits filed to stop rule changes. They’re important. You can leave one too, here.

The deadline is July 31st at 11:59 PM EST. A lot of recent comments support the gag rule, so it would be great if you could show some support for the American public’s majority opinion. If you’d like talking points and a longer explanation of this rule change, here’s an article.
