More fun with hot weather, in an older house with limited outlets:

When your breathing is already not great before going to bed, and keeping the air filter running in the bedroom would be a good plan. Which might hopefully keep an asthma attack from waking you up again.

But, sleep just ain’t happening without a fan blowing directly at you! (Stronger than the filter unit fan, which directs it close to straight up anyway.) And of course you’re already running multiple aquarium electricals in there, which need to stay plugged as life support for fish.

One extra motor running is a reasonable limit there. Don’t want to push the load too much. And of course there’s no obvious less overloaded outlet in a nearby room to run another extension cord from 😊

The Seri, or Comcaac, people of the Sonora coast have had a long and important relationship with the leatherback.  Considered to be one of their five creator deities, the capture and release leatherback is cause for ceremony and celebrations.  In recent years, however, the nation has noticed the drastic decline of the leatherback population, and decided to take action.  The new conservation movement, called Grupo Tortuguero Comaac, consists of both elders and youths and uses both modern technology and tradition knowledge to monitor turtle populations and research their foraging habits.  Five person teams consisting of an elder, two younger team members, and two trainees make monitoring expeditions into the

Canal de Infiernillo, the center of Seri territory and a site of extreme importance for migrating juvenile turtles.  This has proven an effective means of both monitoring local turtle populations and passing traditional knowledge on to the younger generations.

You notice how Trump demolished the food safety laws and now, in the past month, we haven’t been able to eat lettuce, eggs, Tyson chicken, and watermelon because there are huge bacteria outbreaks?

Interesting… 🤔 🤔 🤔

lettuce (x)

eggs (x)

chicken (x)

watermelon (x)

and here’s a link to an article talking about the changes trump has made to food safety protections

Just looking at those articles had this at the bottom

A lot of these companies are usually where lower income folks shop. I’m not saying the trump regime is trying to kill the poor, but…

this has all been a problem long before trump. The way food is mass produced and the way we havent had the greatest regulations in place even before trump cut them even more has been a problem and honestly a ticking time bomb waiting to break out with some super-bug. Tyson has been known for incredibly inhumane and pretty unsanitary methods of raising chickens. Many farms of all sorts even involving plants dont have good enough safety measures. Trump is enabling this even more but it goes deeper than trump

This ^^^ is good info. Love the examples of how invalidators work their toxic magic. BOOST.

Reblogged for a Follower who wanted the signs of emotional abuse.

Examples of Emotional Abuse Through Invalidation

  • “Ordering” you to feel differently (Get over it. Don’t be so sensitive.)
  • Ordering you to “look” differently (Don’t look so serious. Don’t look so proud of yourself.)
  • Denying your perception, defending (You’ve got it all wrong but of course I respect you)
  • Trying to make you feel guilting while invalidating you (I tried to help you. At least I __. You are making everyone else miserable).
  • Trying to isolate you (You are the only one that feels that way. It doesn’t bother anyone else, why should it bother you?)
  • Minimizing your feelings (You must be kidding. It can’t be that bad.)
  • Using reason (There is not reason to get upset. Let’s stick to the facts. Maybe it’s because ___.)
  • Judging and labeling you (You have a problem. You are too sensitive. you are hopeless.)
  • Tell you how you “should” feel or act (You should be excited. You shouldn’t let it bother you.)

Eastern spotted skunk (Spilogale putorius)

The eastern spotted skunk is a small, relatively slender skunk found throughout the eastern United States and in small areas of Canada and Mexico. Males, at 46.3–68.8 cm in total length, are large than females, at 35–54.4 cm. They are much more active than any other type of skunk. Eastern spotted skunks seem to prefer forest edges and upland prairie
grasslands, especially where rock outcrops and shrub clumps are present.
In western counties, it relies heavily on riparian corridors where
woody shrubs and woodland edges are present. Woody fencerows, odd areas,
and abandoned farm buildings are also important habitat for Eastern
Spotted Skunks.Eastern spotted skunks are quite secretive and crafty creatures, and it
is a rarity for humans to see them. They are also nocturnal and tend to
be more active during dry cool nights rather than warm wet nights.
Although these skunks do not hibernate, they do tend to greatly reduce
their activity when enduring intensely warm summers or very cold winters. In addition to performing a handstand before spraying a potential
predator, the skunk also performs foot stamping, which involves the
skunk stamping its feet on the ground in order to warn an approaching
predator. The stamping can be heard for several meters away and is
usually followed by the skunk spraying its odorous solution.

The auxiliary water pump on my car broke (the plastic rotted and cracked so it was spewing coolant everywhere) and the mechanic wanted me to pay $300 for a $150 part.

I went to an auto store and bought the part for just under $150 and was gonna have the mechanic install it until I called them back and they said they don’t install customer parts.

So I figured if they won’t install customer parts, they’ll at least fix existing problems with the vehicle.

So, naturally I poorly installed the new part myself, then took it to the mechanic saying I had coolant issues and wasn’t sure what the problem was. They fixed the problem in under 20 minutes and only charged me $30 for the labor.

Ho l y

Imma try that last one

I went to my doctor’s office and asked if they had any slots open for that day.  They told me they don’t take walk-ins, you have to call ahead for an appointment.

So I pulled out my phone and called the office.  The other receptionist answered the phone and the first one literally WATCHED ME say “I’d like to make an appointment today if you have any slots available.”

He said to me (on the phone) all they had available was for 9:00, could I make it in time?

I said “Yep, I’m standing right here.”

He didn’t understand what I meant and happily put my appointment down.

I hung up and said to the original receptionist, “Hi, I have an appointment in five minutes.”

She (very angrily) entered me as arrived and gave me my forms.
