I really hate the law that lets employees refuse to sell shit to people on “moral or religious grounds.”
I just saw an article about it being used to refuse to sell HRT to a trans person and it’s just so frustrating. Luckily the pharmacist who refused to sell to them got fired, but it’s fucking annoying as hell that there’s a law where someone can be like “uh well I don’t think you should have HRT so no, no, i’m just gonna fuck up this whole process. This is about me and what I want.”
Like that is not someone else’s call to make. You don’t wanna sell HRT or birth control when WHY ARE YOU A PHARMACIST WORKING A CVS WHERE YOU KNOW THEY SELL THAT, YOU FUCKING DEVIL??? WHY ARE YOU THERE?? DON’T HAVE THAT JOB YOU FUCK??
One of these days I need to find the actual text and go over it with a fine-toothed comb, because if they’re gonna make “religious exceptions” to make life harder for marginalized folks, my angry Jewish ass is gonna abuse the fuck out of that to protect people.Sorry, but my religion requires that I stand with the abused, the disenfranchised, the stranger in our lands, and that I work to make this world a better place.
moral of the story is…..being racist and bitter makes you age like milk
hey white ladies in the comments deeming this as misogynistic: making fun of, ridiculing, and belittling women (especially women and girls of color) is a part of katie hopkins’ racist ass brand:
she made fun of north west when she was baby, literally calling her ugly:
she made light of sexual exploitation whilst belittling Meghan Markle:
more belittling of Meghan Markle:
she took a video of Muslims (mostly Muslim women) without their consent and posted it to humiliate them:
if you really wanna care about misogyny then direct your anger towards this disgusting racist white woman who uses social media to constantly bash women of color…. not a bunch of young people making memes about how she ages like expired goods.
I make fun of katie hopkin’s appearance because she’s terrible, it’s funny, and I don’t care. thank you that’s all
Should I not? Do you actually think Haaretz is making this up?
so no Australian news outlet covered this ? besides im not taking any news that comes from tel aviv
I imagine AUSTRIAN news covered this but it would have been in German.
as an austrian I can confirm that this story isn’t made up we really have that many rightwingers and fascists
here are some austrian sources for anyone who’s interested
IKG (Viennese Jewish community) – basically confirms what’s above Wiener Zeitung – broke the story, provides notable quote from waldhäusl: “we aren’t here to make kosher-slaughtered meat available to the viennese”. they want to restrict the buying of kosher meat to people who can prove that they always eat only kosher (”because the right of free religious expression is only an individual one”) hence the registration, övp says registration won’t happen but they are more than willing to work with the fpö insofar as restricting kosher slaughter Kurier – basically a rehash of the WZ article Der Standard – a take that focuses more on politics, övp wants to “find a solution that does not upset the IKG’s concerns” but again they are totally down to restrict kosher slaughter, spö and liste pilz call them out for behaving in a nazi-like way. also notes that restricting kosher slaughter will have implications for the muslim community because halal meat
and yeah the fpö being founded by ex-nazis is not exactly a secret in austria and its members constantly land themselves in hot water because they’re always getting caught being antisemitic. the most recent big one that comes to mind is the burschenschaft scandal earlier this year (long story short, guy was in a nazi frat). not that austrian antisemitism is limited to the far right! but they seem to be the ones who flaunt it the most
Its awfully telling that you care more about a News article being from an Israeli paper than the Austrian government’s former Nazi members trying to recreate discriminatory policies and making registries.
“so no Australian news outlet covered this ? besides im not taking any news that comes from tel aviv”
1) Austrian, not Australian
2) Translation: “At least half of all the world’s Jews are sneaky liars.”
Anyone who sees news about a Freedom Party being deeply and terrifyingly antisemitic and reacts with scepticism is dangerously uninformed. Confirm what you read, sure, but the default reaction to accusations of antisemitism against neo-Nazis should be “oh shit”, not “weeelll maybe…”
The business started in 2016 when Faulkner saw an old hot dog grill at his uncle’s house. After two years of starts and stops, Faulkner stuck with it this summer.
Then he hit a snag: The Minneapolis Health Department called. Someone had complained to the city about the hot dog stand.
But instead of shutting Faulkner down, the Health Department decided to help him meet its standards.
Health Department staff made sure he had the necessary equipment — thermometers, food containers, hand sanitizer and utensil-cleaning stations — as well as knowledge about proper food handling. Once he passed his health inspection, inspectors paid the $87 for the special event food permit, and the city-sanctioned stand opened for business.
Officials in the Northside Economic Opportunity Network (NEON) also connected with Faulkner to build his business savvy. Faulkner impressed them with his innate abilities, said Ann Fix, program manager of NEON’s food business incubator.
“Every day I’ve been going home thinking, ‘This young man is the brightness of my day,’ ” she said.
When inspectors talked to Faulkner, he listened intently. When they sat down to talk about business strategy, finances and marketing, Faulkner engaged.
“With Jaequan, it’s an even bigger passion,” Fix said. “It’s not just about the hot dogs, it’s about everything in the community.”
Finally, the new update actually shows you less of the world than it did before. Gone is the “Historical Imagery” tool that allowed you to see how a place had changed through time. Now, the Citadel of Aleppo in Syria is visible only as a bombed-out ruin. A surreal street-view reveals two women cheerily taking a selfie – with debris all around and their legs spliced out of shot.
