The main difference between me and my cat is that when she sleeps all day and does nothing productive, she doesn’t feel crushing guilt and overwhelming societal pressure.
i’ve met a lot of people during my time online and many of us have grown apart but i still think of them frequently and wonder what they’re up to and hope they’re no longer facing the same demons they once did
Jana Winter at the Boston Globe on Saturday reported about the previously undisclosed program that specifically targets travelers who “are not under investigation by any agency and are not in the Terrorist Screening Data Base.” Winter cites a TSA bulletin from March, which says the goal of the initiative is to thwart threats to commercial flights posed by “unknown or partially known terrorists.”
All US citizens who come into the country are automatically screened for potential inclusion in Quiet Skies, and thousands of Americans have reportedly already been subject to surveillance at the airport and on their flights under the program. Travelers stay on the Quiet Skies watchlist for up to 90 days or three encounters, and they’re never notified they’re on the list at all.
A Chicago-based company is getting push back from some Native Hawaiians for suing other shops from using Aloha in its name.
Aloha Poke Holdings LLC has accused other poke shops of infringing on its name.
“Aloha Poke Co is a Midwest based restaurant that has aggressively threatened Kanaka Maoli (Native Hawaiian) families with legal action for the use of the word ‘Aloha’ in their business or social media,” the petition reads. “Not only are they capitalizing on an Indigenous traditional dish that they have no rights to, but they also have the gall to try and bar our own people from using a word in our language that has deep cultural meaning and symbolism. A language that up until 1987 was illegal in schools in Hawaii.”
