coryeggs:

4 December 2017 (about 9:45 p.m.), almost Egg Day 5 / Fry Day 1

I’ll try to get some better video later, but it’s really not easy with the lighting conditions and that zoom level.

But, I went to check on the eggs a few minutes ago–and spotted movement! It looks like at least two have hatched so far, and they’re looking pretty active.

I thought they wouldn’t move around so much until their remaining yolk sacks were gone, and those are still visible if you squint. Apparently the fry don’t know that, though 😅

(Looking more closely again now, and there are at least 5 or 6. So tiny and zooming around a lot, so it’s hard to get a good count. Also, they do look small enough for the first batch to have gone through that too-coarse breeding net mesh, like I suspected 😳)

Some of the eggs still have visible fishy eyes showing through them, so I figure I might sit by the tank a while and see if maybe I can watch more hatch.

But yes, apparently the eggs were indeed pretty close to hatching last night/early this morning.
!

Double checking, they shouldn’t need food for a couple of days, until their yolk sacs are used up. But, after the last disappointment, I do have a microworm culture and some Hikari First Bites ready to go. I may also order some of the Ocean Nutrition baby brine shrimp in a jar with Prime shipping, to be safe. Though they’re probably too big for those babies quite yet, that might be handy for variety in a few days. *fingers crossed*

I am also planning to stick some more Java moss in there soon, both for cover and as a source of infusoria for them to pick at.

Anyway, hopefully some better video/photos later!
