One of the reasons I don’t personally like the heavy reliance in some circles on references to ancient Greece, tbqh. Not only does it come across as pretentious too often, that’s just not a society I feel at all connected to. Or feel any big urge to draw inspiration/legitimacy from on basically any social matters.

(As usual, not suggesting that anybody else needs to reach the same conclusions there, much less use whatever words I prefer. If that works for someone else, great. There’s also no need for anyone to act snotty about that approach not working for others.)

What the fuck

I know y’all who are making the joke is gay but this really ain’t funny, it’s kinda fucked to up to joke about lmao

I’m really fucking pissed about this bc so many straight liberals say this same shit so I’m just gonna tell you why this is fucked up, copy pasted from another post I wrote:

First of all, the myth that “all homophobes are secretly gay!” Is a myth that straight people made so they don’t have to feel responsible for the oppression that happen to gay people and to laugh at gay people’s pain.

Second of all, even if a homophobe is “secretly gay uwu” that’s not fucking funny. He’s not a homophobe secretly gay, he’s a gay man who’s suffered and been surrounded by so much homophobia that he’s convinced himself it’s so wrong that he has to hide it and go for other gay men to be seen as acceptable. He hurts himself and gay men in process because of what society has taught him. This does not happen as often as straight people think it does and when it does, it’s not fucking funny, it’s extremely sad.

Pretty much if you laugh at gay men’s pain and can’t see why that’s wrong, you’re not progressive, you’re just a piece of shit.

The whole “homophobes are gay” is based on bullshit studies where 1) [self claimed] straight homophobic men, where the people running the program had little to no measuring stick on what meant homophobic, had shit strapped to their dicks and made to watch gay porn. If you don’t already see flaws then idk what to tell you and 2) the other study was about kids growing up in homophobic households, the study concluding that kids in homophobic households will parrot homophobia.

These studies do not say homophobes are gay.

Actually, that’s not where it comes from at all. The idea that the lady doth protest too much, so to speak, goes as far back as Ancient Greece.

Here’s an example: Martial, a homosexual ancient Roman poet, as well as Juvenal of the same profession and the same period, satirized and perhaps even detested men who hide their true desires by “wearing beards, cutting their hair short, and assuming a false aspect of virility.”

As a specific instance, Martial derides a man named Maternus, who apparently “thinks that anyone who wears pink is not a man,/ And believes that violet-colored clothes are for queens.”

Martial believed that Maternus protested too much, with speech and outer appearance, that he was actually “devoted” to drauci (Latin, essentially meaning a man w/ large genitals. Once again, to quote Martial: “heavy hung smooth-cheeked young men,” as he would sometimes call them; heavy hung referring to drauci and smooth-cheeked referring to homosexual. The Greeks and Romans did not have specific words for homosexuality or bisexuality, just descriptors for types of them, if that makes sense.).

So, yeah, that’s just one specific example off the top of my head out of what I’m sure is many more. Most of our stereotypes about wlw/mlm come from ancient Greece and Rome.

Well, on one hand I’m glad I hadn’t managed to get to sleep yet before that notification showed up, because I really want that package and wasn’t expecting it until after the weekend.

OTOH, I am exhausted and that means setting an alarm for about 2 hours. Again.

(Also hoping it will come earlyish so I can get back to bed pretty quickly, but we’ll see. At least there is the working doorbell again.)

Well, I just finally got that package!

Saturday I managed to doze off waiting–probably not long before they came, going by the tracking page. So they didn’t ring the bell then 😬 (I was right next to one receiver, and it definitely would have woken me up. It was also working later in the day.)

Anyway, the earliest redelivery with Royal Mail is 2 business days. This morning I did thankfully get more sleep beforehand, but I haven’t even sat down just in case 🙄
