I suspect at least some percentage of shitty cultural appropriation discourse comes from white people who now have a “progressive” sounding explanation for feeling anxious about interacting with people from different (especially non-white/western/Christian) ethnic groups and cultures (and of course it gets egged on by the internet’s performative wokeness moral purity bullshit contest).

Like this, but unironically:

Personal experience can confirm something like this. I had people get real uncomfortable when I’d talk about my experiences in Mexico (ie the majority of my life) and ask me not to bring it up (NOT BRING UP ALMOST ALL MY LIFE EVENTS) like “as a white person, I just don’t understand that stuff and I don’t feel comfortable commenting on a culture I don’t belong to” and be like this about everything non-white.

Unsurprising, but also fucking gross

Definitely hearing sleet out there right now. The ice pellet kind, not the other more British kind. 😉

It’s still just above freezing, so whether anything will stick remains to be seen. Or how much actual snow might happen.

Haven’t seen any so far this winter here. Which still feels pretty odd to me, never mind the Household Swede. Though he’s been avoiding spending time outside the past few days.

Right now, we seem to be having rain turning into big wet snowflakes, which are coming down pretty hard. No idea what it might be later, but I had better get some sleep.

A little dusting right now, after maybe 10-15 minutes. And yes, that is a geranium still blooming. Maybe I should have moved it under cover closer to the house, but too late now.

Mostly hoping it won’t get too slick out there, since someone is going to need to walk to the store for more cold meds, besides the grocery delivery due later. But, we’ll see.

Not something you generally have to worry about much here, so yeah they don’t really have plows or salt trucks or anything to deal with it whenever the roads do get covered. Just have to wait. (That’s before we even get to drivers…😨)

I’ve only seen that a few times in over 10 years, though. Usually it will just snow a little and not really stick to the roads. Sidewalks can be a different matter sometimes.

I just called the police station to ask what weapons are legal to carry in the street and was transferred to three different extremely rude people who didn’t know.

They really are just handing guns and badges to random racists out here.

Cops: “We enforce the laws.”

Me: “So… what are the laws?”

Cops:

I want to clarify here that I didn’t even want a list of all allowable weapons. I just had two very simple questions:

1. Can I conceal a baton for self-defense?
2. How long can a knife be? (I already know open carry of knives is legal)

Like… how as cops have these people never had to answer these questions?
