this is the most innocent yak i have ever seen. this lifted my spirits a little.

One time my brother tried to yank away my “towel hat”, and was promptly horrified when I yelled in pain.

“I didn’t know your hair was IN there!!” he cried.

Boys.

WAIT YOURE HAIR IS IN THE TWISTY PART?!

Oh dear

I’ve seen this post several times and never actually seen anyone actually explain how to do the hair twist that long haired people can do, so I drew a tutorial. berrykoolaid

reblogging for demonstration because you learn something new every day

My brother seemed like he discovered a new universe when I showed him this

I could never figure this out either. I mean I knew the hair was in there, at least, but every time I tried to do this back in the days when my hair was long, I just… ended up with… a towel that was highly likely to fall right off my head, because I had no idea how to actually do this thing.

The towel twist also only really works well for straight hair, unless you want frizz and tangling. (My bigger concern there. Keeping regular towels away from my head has really helped reduce the snarls.)

Another benefit to plopping with a t-shirt instead? Easier to get tied on your head so it doesn’t fall off, for towel wrapping dunces like me too 😅

This isn’t because Burger King is nicer in Denmark. It’s the law, and the US is actually the only so-called “developed” country that doesn’t mandate jobs provide a minimum amount of paid vacation, sick leave, or both.

kinda debunks that claim that they can’t afford to pay their workers those sort of wages and still make a profit

Its corporate greed, plain and simple.

It is the same in Sweden. It is so funny every time an american company opens up offices here and then tries to do it the american way and all the unions go “I don’t think so”.

Like when Toys ‘r Us opened in sweden 1995.

They refused to sign on to the union deals that govern such things as pay/pension and vacation in Sweden. Most of our rights are not mandated by law (we don’t have a minimum wage for example) but are made in voluntary agreements between the unions and the companies.

But they refused, saying that they had never negotiated with any unions anywhere else in the world and weren’t planning to do it in Sweden either.

Of course a lot of people thought it was useless fighting against an international giant, but Handels (the store worker’s union) said that they could not budge, because that might mean that the whole Swedish model might crumble. So they went on strike in the three stores that the company had opened so far.

Cue a shitstorm from the press, and from right wing politicians. But the members were all for it, and other unions started doing sympathy actions. The teamsters refused to deliver goods to their stores, the financial unions blockaded all economical transactions regarding Toys ‘r Us and the strike got strong international support as well, especially in the US.

In the end, Toys ‘r Us caved in, signed the union deal, and thus their employees got the same treatment as Swedish store workers everywhere.

The right to be treated as bloody human beings and not disposable cogs in a machine.

and that story right there? is exactly why Republicans in the US work so hard to bust unions. it’s because unionizing WORKS and they’re terrified of workers actually having some power.

It makes me despair for Americans that so many of us are so fucking ignorant of how badly we’re treated. People are proud of the fact that they manage to work three jobs to get by, without any understanding of the fact that they shouldn’t have to. But they’ve been sold a bill of goods that anyone who can’t hack it is a lazy freeloader taking “good people’s” taxes like a thief.

It’s almost as if the country was born to abusive parents, and has never known any other life, so it can’t imagine not being abused….

It kills me how thorough the anti-union indoctrination is in the US, too. Talk to pretty much anyone who’s been in retail a while (and probably who hasn’t gone to a liberal arts college because let me tell you about how pro-union liberal arts professors are), and try to get them to unionize.

You’ll be met with a lot of resistance, and most of it will be vague, non-logical, emotional “unions are bad, aren’t they?” responses, and it’s because wow, they’ve been fed a lot of bull. “Unions would make us raise our prices so you can’t buy as much stuff,” Walmart says to its suffering workers who have to go to the foodbank to afford to eat. “Unions are bullies that destroy healthy companies,” Starbucks says as it fires anyone who so much breathes the word.

It’s no accident that the GOP is against a living wage and affordable college educations. The Rabble might get Ideas if they were educated and not exhausted all the time.

My cat Clyde is 13 years old. He’s one of the sweetest cuddle buddies I’ve ever had. He’s my emotional support animal, as well as my roommates’ ESA. He’s an amazing cat who deserves the best treatment and care, and unfortunately, he’s sick. Earlier this morning, we discovered blood in his urine and he was throwing up milky, foamy bile as well as not eating his food. We took him to an emergency pet clinic around 12 (noon) – around the same time we discovered the blood and vomiting – and were here for about four hours. He’s still currently there because he was unable to produce a urine sample for them to test for a UTI, but they took blood tests.

They discovered that his glucose levels were very high and that he has diabetes, but that is for a different time and a different post. This post is me asking for help to pay this medical bill so that when it comes to buying insulin and taking him to his glucose screenings, we’re more readily able to pay for those things. This medical bill is going to set me back a lot because as of right now, two of my three roommates are unable to help reimburse, and I have to pay about $1000 in student loans and rent a month. This cost doesn’t include my own medical bills, transportation fees, groceries, and other spending that happens in my day to day life. The medical bill was just short of $600

If you could share this or donate, even just a little bit, I’d really appreciate it. I hate to ask this, but I need help and Clyde needs help and I want him to be as comfortable and healthy as he can be.

One day, that “secret family recipe” will just be that recipe their ancestor looked up online years ago and everybody liked.

I found out one of my family’s “secret recipes” is on the back of the pudding box. Uncle Rich bakes up some lies.

While researching his book The Nordic Cookbook, chef Magnus Nilsson found that every family in Sweden has a special, unique family recipe for pickled herring passed down secretly from generation to generation. He got about 200 of these. They were all exactly the same. He traced the origin point back to a popular cookbook published in the late 1960s. I think the moral of that story is everyone’s grandma is a liar.
